GESC2024

PHD STUDENTS OF EMOS GROUP AT GESC2024

The 2024 Global Environment Solutions Challenge (GESC) continues its mission to combat plastic pollution, inviting student teams from around the globe to explore solutions within four critical themes: Human Health, Circular Economy, Climate Change, and Zero-Waste City. With a pressing issue at hand—over 400 million tones of plastic produced yearly, a significant portion polluting our waters—the GESC offers a platform for innovative minds to contribute to a sustainable future.

Teams of 2-4 students are encouraged to register and select one of the themes to focus on, with a maximum of 100 teams per topic accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Participants compete for substantial prizes, with 15000 RMB for the champions, 9000 RMB for two second-prize teams, and 6000 RMB for three third-prize teams, alongside a Most Popular Team award based on online voting. The event also facilitates observer participation, allowing environmental enthusiasts to vote for their favorite teams and attend the event.

The challenge underscores the importance of accurate registration, adherence to submission requirements, and originality in presentations, aiming for a fair and impactful competition. With critical deadlines spanning from participant registration closing on April 3, 2024, to observer registration and voting until June 5, 2024, and the climax of semi-finals and finals in early June in Shanghai, the GESC stands as a beacon of hope and action in the fight against plastic pollution.

We are proud to announce that the MAD Scientists Team, consisting of PhD students Milinko, Andrijana, and Dušica from the EMOS research group, has secured their path to the semifinals of this wonderful event. Yes, they are heading to China! 🙂
