We are delighted to announce that Prof. Sanja J. Armaković and Prof. Stevan Armaković, members of the EMOS research group at the University of Novi Sad, have once again been included in the 2026 edition of the Stanford/Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists list.
This international recognition highlights the continued visibility and citation impact of their scientific contributions in computational chemistry, materials science, environmental research, atomistic modeling, and related interdisciplinary fields.
For the EMOS research group, the inclusion of two of its researchers in this prestigious ranking represents an important achievement and further encouragement to continue developing high-quality research, international scientific collaborations, and innovative approaches to complex scientific challenges.
An International Recognition Based on Bibliometric Indicators
The Stanford/Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists list is a widely recognized bibliometric database identifying researchers with significant citation impact across different scientific disciplines.
Unlike traditional scientific awards based on nominations and selections by committees, this list is developed through a systematic, data-driven evaluation of scientific publication and citation records.
The methodology relies on data from the Scopus database and considers multiple standardized indicators, including citation counts, the h-index, co-authorship-adjusted measures, and a composite indicator of scientific citation impact.
This approach provides a consistent framework for examining the visibility and influence of researchers within the international scientific community.
Although bibliometric indicators cannot capture every aspect of scientific quality, originality, or societal impact, inclusion in this database represents a meaningful acknowledgment of the international reach of published research.
Scientific Excellence Through Teamwork
While the Stanford/Elsevier ranking recognizes individual scientists, the research behind these achievements is fundamentally collaborative.
This is particularly important for EMOS, whose scientific activities bring together researchers working across experimental chemistry, environmental science, materials development, photocatalysis, computational chemistry, and atomistic modeling.
The group’s research frequently involves combining complementary methodologies, where experimental investigations provide information about the properties and behavior of materials and molecular systems, while theoretical calculations offer insights into their structure, interactions, and underlying mechanisms.
In recent years, data-driven approaches and machine learning have further expanded these possibilities, opening new directions for interdisciplinary research.
Such scientific activities depend on much more than the contributions of individual researchers. They require effective teamwork, continuous communication, shared expertise, and the dedication of colleagues working toward common scientific objectives.
The EMOS research group is fortunate to bring together highly motivated and talented researchers whose scientific contributions, creativity, and commitment have played an essential role in its development.
The continued international recognition of Sanja and Stevan therefore also reflects the strength of the collaborative research environment established within EMOS.
The Importance of Our Collaborators and Young Researchers
One of the most valuable aspects of EMOS is its network of scientific collaborators, both within the University of Novi Sad and at partner institutions in Serbia and abroad.
Long-term cooperation with colleagues from different scientific backgrounds has made it possible to investigate complex research problems, combine experimental and computational expertise, and develop new scientific directions.
Equally important is the contribution of doctoral students and early-career researchers, whose enthusiasm, dedication, and increasingly independent scientific work are essential to the group’s continued progress.
Their involvement in research projects, scientific publications, international conferences, and collaborative activities contributes directly to the development and visibility of EMOS.
Supporting young scientists, encouraging interdisciplinary thinking, and providing opportunities for professional development remain among the group’s most important objectives.
Scientific achievements become particularly meaningful when they contribute not only to individual careers but also to the development of a supportive research community in which knowledge, experience, and opportunities are shared.
Continuing Our Scientific Journey
The inclusion of Sanja and Stevan in the 2026 Stanford/Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists list is another important milestone for EMOS.
It recognizes their sustained scientific contributions while also highlighting the importance of the collaborative research activities developed within the group over many years.
We are especially proud of the people behind these achievements: our researchers, doctoral students, closest collaborators, and scientific partners whose dedication and expertise continue to shape the development of EMOS.
Their work demonstrates that successful scientific research is built not only on individual expertise, but also on trust, cooperation, persistence, and the willingness to share ideas and knowledge.
We warmly congratulate Sanja and Stevan on their renewed inclusion in this internationally recognized list and extend our appreciation to everyone who has contributed to the group’s scientific accomplishments.
We look forward to continuing our research activities, strengthening international partnerships, supporting young researchers, and exploring new scientific challenges together.
